Christian Metz House
The “Christian Metz House” is likely the oldest structure in West Seneca. Built in the early 1840s, it served as the home of George Stanart who operated a nearby Seneca Indian owned sawmill when the area was part of the Buffalo Creek Reservation. Upon land purchase and arrival of the religious Community of True Inspiration or Ebenezers, Christian Metz occupied the building as his home in 1842. Metz was the leader or “Werkzeug” of the community. After the Ebenezers left the area completely by the 1860s, the house served as private residences for a number of families, a paint shop, a speakeasy, and an office building until it was purchased by the town of West Seneca. More recently, it has been used as another location for the West Seneca Historical Society who oversaw renovations and display set-ups in 2023-2024. It is now open to the public once a month during the Spring and Summer.
